PAINTING A PICTURE FOR MOM
“Mother” is a term used to describe “a selfless woman who sacrifices their wants and needs for the wants and needs of their children.” Being a mom takes a special person who is full of generosity, patience, wisdom, and kindness. A mother is not to be a child’s friend but a protector and provider through the good and bad moments life throws our way.
One of my favorite moments with my mother was the time I came back from a friend’s house covered in paint from head to toe. I thought it was a fabulous idea to paint myself as I was helping a friend fix up some things around her house. She opened the door, looked me up and down, and proceeded to say, “What did you do to yourself?” Well, I’m no artist, but I obviously painted myself, and it just so happens that the paint wasn’t coming off. My mom, who was frustrated and irritated, took me to Lowe’s and bought industrial paint remover to get the paint off of me. We went home, and she spent over an hour scrubbing the paint off of me in silence. After all the paint was successfully removed, I looked at her and said: “You know it’s kind of funny I painted myself, you have to admit.” As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she burst into laughter and gave me a hug and said: “I love you.”
I cannot thank my mother enough for displaying grace and compassion through all of the years we have spent together. She is a woman I look up to and aspire to be like every day. I will never be able to thank her enough for all she has done for me by just being her. Mom, I love you, and couldn’t imagine spending my life without you, thank you for all you do.
Standing Together,
